Yogyakarta Tourist Attraction: Gampingan Temple

Gampingan Temple Complex is located in Gampingan, Piyungan, Bantul. In this complex, there are seven buildings of white stone. One of the seven buildings has a size of 4.64 x 4.65 meters, estimated as the main building.

But unfortunately, the building remains the ruins of eight layers of stones as high as 1.2 meters, and the condition of the other six buildings also damaged. Inside the main building, there are three Dhyani Buddha Vairocana statues, Jambhala statue, and Candralokesvara statue of andesite stone.

There are also one fragment of ceramic statue, eight miniature gold objects, one gold ring, also earthenware fragments. Based on the findings of the statues, it is estimated that Gampingan Temple is a Buddhist temple which the god Jambhala as the main god.

While the statues of Candralokesvara found together with Jambhala show the flow of Tantraism in Mahayana Buddhism. Until now the written data about the construction of this temple has not been found, so the age of this temple is based on the style of art and the statue shows the characteristics from 9th AD.
